The iPhone 15 will be the next Apple product to feature OLED panels from Samsung Display. According to a report from South Korean newspaper The Elec, the two tech giants are in the final stages of a contract to produce the panels. The technology will be included in all four iPhone 15 models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The expected unveiling event for the 15th generation iPhone will take place in September this year. Apple has not yet announced the exact date and time.
What OLED technology could bring to the iPhone 15
Among the new features of the new range of Apple devices, users can expect a reduction of the so-called bezels (the black edges around the screen) and an improvement in image quality, precisely thanks to the use of OLED technology.

Known for sharing news and rumors from the world of technology, Youtuber Ice Universe wrote on his Twitter account:
"Apple is working on an iPhone 0 besel! Looks like Cook is a fan of mine and hates bezels as much as I do!". According to sources, Apple has asked Samsung Display and LG Display to develop bezel-less OLED displays, eliminating bezels altogether and using UPC technology to make the new iPhone look like a piece of glass. In addition, Apple is reportedly developing a unibody glass body at the same time, using a new type of ultra-strong and durable glass. At this point, the new iPhone will look like a closed glass casing - a cell phone of the future!"
Samsung Display remains the market leader in OLED panels.
Considered the largest producer of such panels for smartphones, Samsung already supplies the product to almost every brand in the market, including the iPhone. Although BOE and LG Display are also Apple suppliers, information from The Elec points out that, so far, only Samsung Display has been given the green light to produce the panels.
Chinese company BOE has even had difficulty producing the panels without infringing on Samsung Display's patents. Both this and some technical difficulties in finalizing the product appear to be causing delays in the company's schedule.
Understanding OLED technology
"OLED" stands for organic light-emitting diode. It is a technology that forms images from self-emitting light pixels. These organic materials emit light when they receive an electric current (fluorescence process), avoiding the backlighting that can still be seen in LCD technology.
The characteristics of this technology make it possible to generate panels with true black (without the need for backlighting) and more vivid colors. In addition, OLED displays can be manufactured with different substrates, allowing the creation of flexible and transparent panels in different formats.
Motivated by this higher image quality and the versatility of the screen format, leading brands of smartphones, monitors and televisions are already using this technology.
