Already considered by many to be the most anticipated game of 2023, Starfield will bring with it a feature that may make some fans a bit impatient. Bethesda Game Studios' new title has load times of up to 58 seconds.
However, this "hiccup" does not seem to dampen players' expectations for the first new universe created by Bethesta in over 25 years. Scheduled for official release on September 6, Starfield has already broken the record for early access.
Loading times increase according to the number of hours played
The release of the highly anticipated Starfield is still two days away, but it has already achieved some noteworthy milestones. The game reached sky-high concurrent player numbers on Steam on its first day of early access. It also became the most watched exclusive game in Twitch history.
However, of these early releases, Digital Foundry, a website specializing in technical analysis of gaming software and hardware, found one detail rather disappointing. In its review, the site noted that loading between different areas of the game usually takes more than 44 seconds. However, after 30 hours of gameplay, this loading time reached 58 seconds.
For some people, a period of time that is still measured in seconds may seem very short. But the advancement of technology in the gaming world has made loading times shorter and shorter. This long loading time between zones may not be a disappointment - as the game promises to have many other good features - but it is a surprise.
Can updates and mods fix the loading time?
There's another piece of information that has surprised gamers still eagerly awaiting Starfield's release. According to the DSOGaming website, the game is going to receive its first major update patch very soon, totaling 13 GB. The update should bring fixes for issues such as crashes, performance and stability.
In addition, Bethesda's new game has already received more than 100 mods for the RPG, a number that is expected to increase significantly after the game's release. The creators of these small modifications generally aim to solve problems or simply give the player new ways to play.
Some of the most popular mods on the Nexusmods website, for example, give the option to add items to the player's inventory or skip the introductory video, while others make tweaks to the user interface and menus. Games such as Skyrim Special Edition have garnered more than 60,000 mods.
We don't yet know if game updates or mods will attempt to address Starfield's long load times. But this will certainly be one of the hopes of gamers eagerly awaiting the launch on the 6th.
Starfield, one of Bethesda's biggest projects, has a storyline based on the exploration of the cosmos. The game will be released for Xbox Series and PC. And one of the requirements recommended by the developer is to run the game on a GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 6600 graphics card.
