Red Dead Redemption arrives on PS4 and Switch, but disappoints

The acclaimed game Red Dead Redemption has finally arrived on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Although the new version of the game brings visual improvements, the high prices and lack of other new features to justify it have disappointed fans, who had been waiting for this release for many years.

Those who have been able to take a look at Red Dead Redemption on PS4 admit that the new version of the game has brought significant improvements in image resolution. The Pushsquare website, for example, noted that "the new Austin is much sharper" and that "the game's art direction is still great and the improved resolution helps bring out its finer details."

In fact, the game reaches Full HD resolution (1920x1080p) in both Switch dock mode and PS4. However, the port does not offer the 60 frames per second that fans were hoping for. The new version of the game still only runs at 30 fps.

Despite this, the image quality is still the plus point that fans have found in Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Switch. Especially when compared to the PS3 version, which had a resolution of only 1152x640p and 30 fps.

This difference between the versions can even be seen in the video from YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits, which compared the game on PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

The ports for the latter two do indeed have noticeable improvements in image quality. The problem is that, after years of waiting, this seems to be the only new feature.

High price and no improvement of the game

Red Dead Redemption is priced at $40 to $45 on PS4 and Switch. But the lack of other improvements in the game's features does not justify these prices for fans. Apart from the increased image resolution (keeping the 30 fps), the version for the latest consoles brings no new features in terms of characters, objects, environments, etc. It's just a port, a remaster.

Pushsquare's website also reported a problem with the menus. In the midst of the image improvements, the menus have been forgotten and have a clunky presentation. The consensus so far is that Rockstar's action-adventure title has undergone only basic changes.

It is worth noting that the game can be played on Microsoft consoles for a reduced price. The Xbox 360 version can be found on the Xbox Marketplace for R$89.00 and, thanks to the backward compatibility feature, it can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series. The game can even be played in 4K resolution on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X.
