The technology race continues apace and Meta does not want to be left behind. Controller of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, Mark Zuckerberg's company is developing a new, more powerful AI system.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta Platforms' goal is to have an AI as powerful as the most advanced model of OpenAI, the company responsible for the popular ChatGPT.
The model should be "several times more powerful" than Llama 2.
In July of this year, Meta released an open source AI language model called Llama 2. Distributed by Microsoft's Azure cloud services (MSFT.O), Llama 2 was created to compete with Google's Bard and OpenAi's ChatGPT. But now, reliable sources from the Wall Street Journal reveal that the new AI system being developed by Meta will be several times more powerful than the commercial version of Llama 2.
While details may still change, the planned language-intensive system would be intended to help other companies build their own services capable of producing analytics, text and other output.
Expecting to start training its new AI system in early 2024, Meta wants to launch the novelty next year, WST reports.
The rise of AI in the tech race continues.
Since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT late last year, the tech industry has poured much of its efforts into developing its own AI systems or applying the feature to devices they were already working with.
Big names in the tech scene have migrated into the nascent generative AI market both in search of new functionality and in an attempt to refine business processes. One of them is Apple. As reported by Bloomberg News in July, Apple is working on an AI system similar to Google's ChatGPT and Bard. In addition to an AI for creating large linguistic models, Ajax, Apple is reportedly testing a chatbot.
Google, for its part, continues to expand the use of AI in its services. In addition to already having Bard in the hotly contested AI market, in late August Google added AI resources to Google Flights to indicate the best day to buy airline tickets. Also in August, The New York Times reported that Google was developing an AI capable of giving life advice.
Another big name in this market that has also started venturing into AI is Elon Musk. In August, the now former Twitter owner announced the development of xAI, an artificial intelligence alternative to the ChatGPT chatbot.
