Suggestions on the best date to buy will appear when searching for a ticket

When searching for a plane ticket to a specific destination, Google Flights already shows the user different flights on various airlines. Another feature is price charts on days close to those searched for, so that customers can choose other dates to spend less. But what happens when the trip does not have flexible dates? This is where Google wants to help users spend less.

The platform announced yesterday that it will launch a new tool later this week. The new feature will provide information on which days tickets may be cheaper for those dates and destinations. Google's press release states.

In Google Flights, you can now see if the current prices for your search are low, normal or high compared to previous averages for the same route. But the age-old question remains: is it better to book now or wait for lower prices to appear?

So this week we're publishing updated information to make that choice a little easier. For searches with reliable trend data, you'll now see when the lowest prices were typically available to book the dates and destinations you choose.

How the tool will work

When searching for tickets, Google Flights' new AI feature will show you the dates when tickets can be purchased at lower prices.

In the example above, shared by Google, the tool provides the following information:

The cheapest time to book is usually at the end of the year, between September 13 and December 7.

The lowest prices for similar trips to Miami are usually found between 1 and 3 months before travel. Prices during this period are $59 USD cheaper than average.

In another statement about the tool, Google explained:

"For example, this information may tell you that the cheapest time to book similar travel is usually two months before departure, and you're almost at that sweet spot. Or you may find that prices often drop near takeoff, so you decide to wait before booking."

It seems Google really wants to make sure the user finds a ticket at the best price. Another tool the search engine is launching is the Price Guarantee.

Initially only for flights departing from the United States, the feature allows users to keep checking ticket prices even after they have purchased them. Google Flights will then not only notify you if a cheaper one appears, but will also refund the price difference via Google Pay if the customer opts for a new ticket.
