According to internal documents obtained by The New York Times, Google is working on "generative AI to perform at least 21 different types of personal and professional tasks." And an AI specifically designed to give life advice would be one of these 21 types of tools.

For this, DeepMind has also hired researchers from Scale AI. To test the project, large teams of professionals from different fields were assembled, including more than 100 experts with PhDs. The types of questions to be included in the service range from etiquette questions to career advice.

If the tool is approved, it is not yet known where Google will set its limits in terms of the content of the questions and answers, especially since it is a generative AI, capable of learning new information over time.

It was only a few months ago that Google's AI safety experts warned about the risks of using AI to follow life advice. According to the company, this practice could cause deterioration of health and well-being, lack of self-initiative and independence. Google's chatbot Bardo has even been banned from giving medical, financial and legal advice.

So, do Google's new plans to work on an AI life coach show that the company has had a change of heart? Perhaps. Or maybe it's an attempt to provide more reliable answers to questions that seem inevitable.

Since the growth of Internet access, users around the world have been asking questions about life advice. However, whether searching Google's search engine or asking a digital assistant like Siri or Alexa, the answers were not machine-generated, but found in specialized articles. Can Google control an AI to limit itself to safe answers?

Other AI tools Google is developing.

The New York Times also revealed other AI tools Google is developing. A tutoring tool and functions to plan budgets, exercise and meal plans would also be among the "21 different types of personal and professional tasks" that Google is considering offering with AI.

Importantly, the information disclosed so far is that Google is studying and testing the development of these tools. However, the company has not yet decided whether it will implement any of them.
