The X Blue seal controversy

The news comes amidst many complaints and memes about the iconic blue seal. Before Twitter Blue (now X Blue) was created, the seal was a symbol of credibility, which was only granted to accounts of organizations and large companies and to users with a public life, such as journalists, artists, athletes, politicians, etc.

Another way to get your account verified and earn the blue seal was to reach the 1 million followers or more mark. In other words, you had to be famous in some way and have a reason to have a verified account. The idea was precisely to prove that the profile was real and not one of the many fakes that fans and any other user can make.

Now X Blue
Now X Blue

Elon Musk's X Blue, however, brought the possibility for a user to get the blue seal by paying for a premium account. The status of having a certified account and the possibility to use some new features of the platform attracted many users. On the other hand, the new service damaged the credibility of the blue seal and made it a laughing stock.

How do you know now which accounts are real, and why have the seal if you're not someone famous who needs a certified account? Even in the midst of the controversy, Musk seems determined to keep X Blue up and running. But to try to avoid embarrassing users, he has now created the option to hide the blue seal. But does that make sense?

Why hide the blue seal and stick with X Blue?

Because the paid X account offers some other features that might be interesting. Among them, the ability to use TweetDeck and to make posts longer than 280 characters.

However, if the intention of hiding the blue label was precisely not to make it clear that you are a premium user, wouldn't continuing to use these functions end up showing it too? Probably.

In addition, the X support page, which provides more details about the new X Blue feature, explains that the blue stamp can be hidden on the user's profile and posts, but it can still appear elsewhere on the platform. Another downside is that some of the X Blue features may not be available while the blue badge is hidden.

How to hide the blue badge

If you are an X Blue user and want to try the feature to hide the blue seal, just go to the "profile customization" option. In this section, you can uncheck the check mark box. The same applies to the desktop and mobile versions.

Currently, new X Blue users will have the option to add the information "verified since", with the date they got the blue badge. Accounts that were verified in the Twitter era, before the premium version was created, can also add the date they were verified on the old platform.
