A desk mat with wireless charging for keyboard, mouse, smartphone and headphones catches the eye

U.S.-based Light&Salt has launched a desktop mat with built-in wireless charging. Why does it attract attention? Because it achieves what other wireless chargers have been unable to do until now: charge a keyboard, mouse, smartphone and headphones at the same time.

The JSD Mat is a multifunctional desk mat that has dedicated areas for charging all these devices simultaneously, even if they are in use. The novelty has features capable of unseating some of the most popular desktop mats, such as Apple's AirPower Mat.

The company has released a keyboard and mouse to complement the experience (but you can use a mouse from other brands).

There is no point in having a wireless charging desktop mat if the user does not have devices with the same type of charging. With this in mind, the launch of the JDS Mat is accompanied by the launch of the brand's keyboard and mouse.

An integral part of the company's proposed experience, the devices can be used in any position on the appropriate area of the mat. No matter where you place the keyboard or how much you move the mouse, the JSD Mat's unique high-frequency electromagnetic resonance technology ensures that they are charging for as long as they are in contact with the desk mat.

The ergonomic keyboard features the Crys layout, in which the 79 keys are honeycomb-shaped to better fit the fingertips. The company's proposition is a better typing experience with less chance of accidentally pressing the wrong keys. The compact keyboard also comes with RGB lighting and a magnetic palm rest, which also serves to store spare keys.

The mouse, meanwhile, follows the same idea of offering a comfortable shape and quiet performance. But in the case of this device, the company offers an alternative for those who have mice of other brands. Light&Salt has manufactured wireless receiver discs. Compatible with devices from various brands - such as Logitech's GPW range and the G503, G703 and G903 - the discs can be inserted to ensure constant charging.

The left side of the JDS Mat features two Qi-compatible charging zones for smartphones and TWS (True Wireless Stereo) headphones, the small wireless headphones. For those wondering, the mat produces 30W of wireless charging, which means it will quickly charge your phone. The JDS Mat is made of vegan leather and measures 72 cm wide, 33 cm high and 0.5 cm thick.

JSD Mat started on Kickstater, but has already reached 4 times its initial goal.

For those who don't know, Kickstarter is one of the largest crowdfunding sites, which aims to support innovation. The site receives hundreds of projects from all over the world that need seed capital for development. Through Kickstarter, creators can reach a specific goal through promotional presales, guaranteeing advantages to supporters who buy in advance.

And that's where Light&Salt launched the JSD Mat. To the company's surprise, however, in just 17 days the product has already reached a value more than 4 times the initial goal. With funding now secured, the JDS Mat remains on Kickstarter until September 29.

For those wishing to take advantage of the early funding price, the JDS bundle costs $219. The keyboard alone is $139. The JSD receiver (for the Logitech mouse) is $29 more.

The product is expected to ship in November 2023, so far only in a few countries. However, it is possible that the success on Kickstarter will be repeated in the regular market.
